Leiden University Excellence Scholarship (LExS)

Scholarship Host

Leiden University offers the LExS for outstanding students enrolling in a full-time Master's degree program. Exceptions include all Humanities programs and LLM (non-advanced) and MSc programs at Leiden Law School.

Eligibility Criteria

(i) Applicable to Master's programs starting in September, excluding Humanities programs, Leiden Law School's LLM (non-advanced), and MSc programs.

(ii) Open to non-EEA/non-EFTA passport holders who are ineligible for Dutch government student finance (Studiefinanciering).

(iii) Exceptions: All nationalities can apply for Advanced LLMs and MSc in International Relations and Diplomacy.

(iv) UK students are eligible unless they resided in the Netherlands and registered in the municipal BRP before January 1, 2021.

(v) Applicants must have excellent academic achievements, typically ranking among the top 10% of graduates in their previous studies.

(vi) Not applicable to students with a previous Leiden University Master's degree unless it is a prerequisite for the applied program.

(vii) Ineligible for combined full scholarships from external providers.

Benefits

(i) The scholarship partially covers tuition fees and is offered at the following levels:€10,000, €15,000, €17,500, €18,500, or €19,000.

(ii) This is not a full scholarship, and recipients must demonstrate financial capability for visa and residence permit purposes.

Scholarship Deadline

1 February: For Master's programs starting in September.
