Eligibility Criteria

(i) Open to both Canadian and international students.

(ii) Applicants must intend to enroll in or transfer to a Dalhousie PhD program in January, May, or September 2025, or January 2026.

(iii) Admission to a PhD program is not required at the time of application, but funding is only provided after acceptance and enrollment.

(iv) Recipients must apply for other major scholarships (such as Tri-Agency CGS-D, Vanier, or Research NS Scotia Scholar) within the first two years of their PhD to maintain eligibility.

(v) African Nova Scotian and Mi'kmaw applicants are encouraged to self-identify for additional funding consideration.

Benefits

(i) Funding of $35,000 per year for up to four years (maximum 48 months).

(ii) The scholarship may be supplemented with other funding sources as determined by the department.

(iii) If awarded additional external scholarships (e.g., Tri-Agency Doctoral Awards), recipients may receive a top-up to a maximum of $40,000 per year.

(iv) Additional financial support may be available through stipends or other funding negotiated with the supervisor or program.
